Global outrage has persisted regarding sexualized deepfakes generated by Elon Musk's AI tool, Grok, even after X announced it would block the chatbot from undressing images in certain locations. The Philippines became the third country to ban Grok, following Southeast Asian neighbors Malaysia and Indonesia, while Britain and France have also maintained pressure. X had initially restricted image generation and editing to paying subscribers, which drew criticism for potentially monetizing the problem. Bowing to global pressure, X stated it would restrict "all users," including paying subscribers, from using Grok to edit images of people in "revealing clothes such as bikinis." This comes as California's attorney general launched an investigation into xAI, Grok's developer, over the sexually explicit material, and a coalition of 28 civil society groups urged Apple and Google to ban Grok and X from their app stores.
